Two Grants Awarded from New Strategic Partnership Fund

September 10, 2009 (Syracuse, NY) – The Central New York Community Foundation has awarded two grants from its new Strategic Partnership Fund. The Strategic Partnership Fund was formed by the Community Foundation this year in response to the recession’s affect on local nonprofit organizations. The Fund supports projects that involve the collaboration of two or more nonprofits seeking to reduce overall operating expenses while working to enhance program delivery in the community.

Contact Community Services and the Mental Health Association received $7,500 to conduct combined business planning. To better integrate the two organizations’ information, referrals and other services, the groups have hired a consultant to create a joint business plan. Contact Community Services annually serves 30,000 people through a variety of mental and behavioral health programs. The Mental Health Association provides mental health referrals, education and advocacy.

The Jewish Home of Central New York and Syracuse Jewish Family Service (SJFS) at Menorah Park received $10,200 for post-merger administrative support. The two organizations will work collaboratively to produce new programs and expand those they already administer.  Syracuse Jewish Family Service is a social service agency that identifies and addresses human service needs. Menorah Park is a senior living community committed to maintaining Jewish values and traditions.

In both cases, each  organization’s individual 501(c)3 status will remain intact. Both partnerships were formed through affiliation agreements, which are contracts that form a consolidation of leadership and define governance and administration structures.

“These four organizations are taking the necessary steps to lower their operating costs during this challenging time for nonprofits,” said John Eberle, Vice President, Grantmaking and Community Initiatives. “Thanks to their creative thinking and foresight, they will now be able to enhance and expand their available services to the community.”
